New Video of our day at the trash dump in Ethiopia

Well....here it is. This is a video that I put together to show you all first hand, just why we all came back so moved by the area in Ethiopia where the trash dump is. This area has over 100 thousand residents who live in complete poverty, eating out of the trash, living and working out of the trash in order to survive. Of course, the saddest are the children that live there.

Keep in mind that this was just one day of our trip and then we went back on the last day to say goodbye. This place impacted all of us to no end. It really shows you how important the work that Sumer is doing actually is and what a difference it is making in the lives of these children. We came back more determined than ever to help them in areas that are only a dream for them. One of those areas is a well. In order for them to get a well, they must own their own land. So land comes first and then a well. They need $25,000 to secure the land in order to be able to start drilling a well. So....that is what we are going for. We will put it out there and see how many people can come together in order to make this a reality for this community that gets forgotten by all who live around there.

Don't just look at this as another person who is asking for more, more, more. See it for yourself and then ask yourself what you would do if you saw that and then had to come home to what we have here in America. As you will see....it is the children that deserve so much more for their future. We are all still trying to process what we saw and use it as motivation to really make a difference. The need is sponsors....and land for a well. Pray whether you can make a difference.

  2. Hey Kelly. My name is Shannon Stivers and we live in Paducah, KY. We came home from Ethiopia in April with our 4 year old son, A.J. I have met your sister Kristi, we were actually at the Adoption Fellowship at her house last month. I have followed your blog for several months and am now setting here at my computer with tears streaming down my face as I watched this video. (My husband just came in and asked me what was wrong and I couldn't even speak?!?!)I would love for our family to help, to bring glory to His name. How can we sponsor a child and get information to our friends/family to do the same? Do you have any trips planned to go back? Thank for you all you are doing!! Our blog is shannonforthisseason.blogspot.com. My email is: jsstivers@brtc.net

    Blessings
    Shannon

  5. This video has changed me. Now that I have seen, I am responsible. We are currently adopting from Rwanda and have basically sold everything my husband will let me part with, done every garage sale possible, doing a car wash in a couple of weeks and done everything to get as far as we are. I asked my husband last night if we could sponsor through Project 61. He knew this was coming because I had showed him the video and he knows me. I ask if there was anything we owned that would bring $700. We are currently trying to sell one of our cars so that we can move forward with our adoption and to sponsor one of the kids from the trash dump. Here is to praying that someone wants a honda:) Thanks for sharing and for making a difference.
